Anthony Orange Commits to the Redbirds

2009-01-06

Anthony Orange of the Owatonna Express -- NAHL

Anthony Orange is ready to charge the ice for the Redbirds next week. A sixteen-year veteran of the game, the defenseman from Plainfield, Illinois, welcomes the opportunity to skate with the nationally ranked ISU Redbirds.

Orange completed his AAA minor hockey career with Team Illinois. As co-captain of the ‘89 Midget Major team, Orange ranked second in assists in the 2007-08 season. With the help of his leadership, Team Illinois captured the silver medal at the 2008 USA Hockey National Championship.

The Owatonna Express of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) took notice of Anthony’s success in AAA hockey and signed a tender with the Team Illinois defensemen. Anthony made the NAHL Central Division team and competed in the first six games this season. Ranked as the #2 defensemen, Anthony was experiencing success on ice, but at the same time he was reassessing his career goals. Anthony determined that pursuing his goal of a college degree could wait no longer. He returned to Illinois and worked with the Redbird coaching staff in order to gain admittance into ISU’s College of Business and take the ice for the Illinois State Redbirds for the Spring semester.

Orange’s passion for the game will make a notable difference in Bloomington—his vision for goal-scoring opportunities and ability to move the puck will be a fine addition to Redbird defense.

Orange graduated from Plainfield South High School in Plainfield, Ill. with a 4.3 GPA and looks to pursue a degree in Economics.

Look for Orange to face off vs. the Robert Morris Springfield squad next Friday, January 16th in Springfield and then the Saint Louis University Billikens, Saturday January 17th at 12:15 and Sunday the 18th at 3:00 PM in the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
